Italy is one of Europe’s most popular destinations for international students. It combines major university cities, a rich cultural environment, efficient transport and a wide variety of regions. Students can choose world-famous centres such as Rome, Milan, Bologna, Turin and Florence, as well as smaller and more affordable university cities.

Higher education system

Italian higher education includes public and private universities, polytechnic institutions and academies of art, music and design. A Bachelor’s degree normally lasts three years and a Master’s degree two years, while medicine, architecture and some regulated professions follow specific structures. Programmes are offered in Italian and English. International applicants often complete a national pre-enrolment procedure, while each university independently checks academic eligibility.
